Special Card Reader Cleaner for Slot Machines

1/25/2007 10:17:00 PM

A question from "Newcoman" wanting to know about tools that slot machine technicians would like to have...
Q: I'm developing a new card reader cleaning card, designed be a slot tech. This card will restore function to readers that other cards fail to fix. The problem is, you can't build much of a business around one product. I would like to create a business that provides the parts, materials, technology that the slot machine technician wishes he had to fix the most common problems. If you could buy the thing or things that that would most help you in your job, what would it/they be?
A: A card reader cleaner is (in my opinion) a waste of time. There are several products out now, and none work very well. This is not a problem that needs something new, the reader are not worth cleaning because it is cheaper to replace them. They don't need cleaned before they wear out. As for the question of any tool that you could produce, I can't think of anything that is not out there already.

  • I disgree with the statement that there is no good cleaning cards out there. I have found that the use of a waffletechnology cleaning card is quick, easy to use (you do not need to open the machine) and is very cost effective. With a well developed preventive maintenance program, cleaning bill validator, card swipes, and ticket printers, will help increase your acceptance rate. If you only increase it by 1 or 2 percent, you are talking about millions of dollars. I do agree that in the past the flat cards did not work so well, but the waffle design, works.

  • I disagree about a cleaner being a waste of time. It sounds like a good idea to me. If the other guy is just throwing them away when they get dirty I would like to be the guy that sells them to his casino.
I agree most of what is out there can be improved, so I say GO FOR IT!
The waffle ones do work pretty good in my opinion too. This is your competition, not the flat cards.
The price still leaves room for marketing a better product that would go for $1.00 a piece.

  • the whole problem with a card reader claener is that no matter the style of card or cleaner, a wound up dust bunny or 2" piece of hair will not come out without pulling it apart. Plus, you can give the whole thing a good full clean at that point..
